Penelope Thomaidi
Photographer, Graphic Designer
Penelope Thomaidi is a freelance photographer based in Athens, Greece, pursuing long-term documentary projects while responding to assignments from the press and institutions. Her work explores environmental and social issues, often focusing on stories with a special relation to memory, self-determination and resistance. Having a 10-year experience in graphic design, she also intervenes in educational programs as an invited lecturer and has been involved in editorial and curatorial projects such as The Provinces and Balkans Today. A member of Hans Lucas agency and participant of iMEdD incubator 2021.
She has collaborated with media such as GEO France, La Tribune de Genève, Mediapart. Her work has been presented in international festivals including: FIF Belo Horizonte, Helsinki Photo Festival, Athens Photo Festival, Thessaloniki Photobiennale, VOIES OFF screenings. She has been awarded at Spéos Awards 2018 (1st prize), La Bourse du Talent 2018 (finalist), Urbanautica Annual Awards 2020 (special mention).
She is a graduate of Creative Documentary and Photojournalism program coordinated by Spéos International School of Photography and Magnum Photos in Paris, and has a background in fine arts (MA Art Production & Research, Universitat de Barcelona) and graphic design.
