Ioanna Kostarella

Associate Professor, Journalist, School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

Ioanna Kostarella is an Associate Professor at the School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she earned her degree in 1998. She holds a PhD in Political Communication and an MA in Communication Studies, both from the Institute of Communications Studies at the University of Leeds.

Before joining the university, Ioanna gained substantial professional experience as a press officer for local government and EU-funded projects. She has also worked as a journalist for various local and national media outlets and continues to write as a columnist for the regional daily newspaper "Chronos" in Kozani.

Currently, Ioanna is the project coordinator for the SHAZAAM project, funded by the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF), and she is the principal investigator for the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki team on the DG Regio funded project COPE (Covering Cohesion Policy- Training MOOC for European Journalism Students.
