Canaj Enri
Freelance Photographer
Enri Canaj was born in Tirana in 1980. In 1991, Enri and his family emigrated to Greece once the border between the two countries opened. He subsequently grew up in Athens, where he studied photography at Leica Academy. Since 2008, Enri has worked as a freelance photographer for publications such as Times Magazine, The New York Times, The Financial Times, the National Geographic, the Guardian, Le Monde, CNN Photo. In 2013, Enri began to document the refugee influx into Europe. His work stands as an active history of the current migrant and diaspora experience in modern Europe. His photography covers various aspects of the migrant experience, from the passage through Europe, to the camps in Greece and his return to his native Albania.
His work has been the subject of several solo and collective shows at places like the Benaki Museum Athens, Museum of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki, Arles Festival, Lumix Festival, and the European Parliament. In 2021, he was made a Magnum Photos full member.
Enri is based in Athens and continues to document migration in Europe. Currently, he has been documenting the ongoing mass exodus from Ukraine.
