Alexis Papahelas was born in Athens in 1961. He has a BA in History and Economics from Bard College and a Master' s degree in International Affairs from Columbia University. For many years he worked as a U.S. correspondent for various newspapers, television and radio networks. He has interviewed many important global personalities from Presidents Obama, Clinton, Assad, Arafat, to Bill Gates and others. He has been a host of the TV affairs shows "FAKELOI" for 10 years.

He is also an author of several books, “the Rape of Greek democracy” which focuses on the US role in Greek politics in the 1960's and his just released book " A Dark Room" an incisive study of 1967-74, a book which sheds light on the role of the US in the military dictatorship in Greece and the events in Cyprus.

He was named among the most influential Europeans for 2015 by POLITICO and is a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations. He is currently the Executive Editor of KATHIMERINI newspaper.
