Agenda
In this workshop, participants will explore creative and ethical methods for collaborating with young people to tell authentic, narrative-driven stories for the Radio Workshop podcast. Using the two-part series “Finding the Right Words” as a case study, the session will delve into the storytelling process behind this portrait of Nonhlanhla Mashabana—a South African spelling bee champion who recorded audio diaries during her final year of high school, capturing the hopes and challenges of her transition to university. This first episode in the series went on to become a finalist for the New York Festivals Radio Awards.
The workshop will be facilitated by Radio Workshop’s Editorial Director Lesedi Mogoatlhe, Senior Producer Dhashen Moodley, and Youth Reporter Nonhlanhla Mashabana, with technical support from Martha O’Donovan. Together, they will share insights into their collaborative production process and offer practical guidance on working with young people to co-create powerful stories that reflect their lived experiences.
A tip sheet will be provided at the end of the workshop as a takeaway for all attendees.
