Agenda
This two-hour workshop will equip journalists with practical skills to uncover and analyse digital disinformation campaigns.
The session is designed for journalists with some investigative experience who want to understand how influence operations unfold online. Participants will learn to use some publicly available online tools to trace the origins of misleading content and understand the actors and networks behind it. Drawing from CLIP’s award-winning investigations — such as exposing a disinformation campaign during Panama’s elections or linking an online operation to an ally of the Mexican government — the workshop will teach methods to analyse web infrastructure and social media activity. It will also explore the broader connections between disinformation and political interests, and how this ecosystem works when countries make key decisions, such as elections or referendums.
Based on CLIP’s cross-border, tech-driven approach, the workshop will also help journalists acquire tools to verify information online and to understand the ecosystems in which misinformation thrives. The workshop emphasizes methodological rigor and real-world applicability, providing insight for investigators who aim to produce and publish impactful journalism in the digital age.
