Agenda
Journalists in the Global South are often exposed to authoritarian legal frameworks that hinder their ability to carry out their work. While these regulations and policies vary across countries, they share significant commonalities, particularly in their efforts to restrict online spaces, limit access to information, criminalize free speech, and threaten cybersecurity.
This panel brings the perspective of four aspiring journalists from each region (Africa, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East), where they pursue their career in complex contexts.
Speakers will provide an overview of the primary legal constraints faced by journalists in the Global South, but also discuss and explore potential strategies and mechanisms to overcome these challenges.
