Agenda
In this live journalism session, three investigative reporters take you inside the murky world of wildlife crime in the Balkans.
Wildlife crime is booming. It ranks among the world’s most profitable illegal trades — just after drugs, weapons, and human trafficking. It is embedded into organised crime networks and often remains hidden from public view. Through performative storytelling, you will get to step inside the journalists' experience of having to make quick and difficult decisions, navigating ethical challenges, and tracing hidden evidence of environmental crimes across borders.
This session draws on two cross-border investigations. One follows the trade in baby lions through Albania and Kosovo, where these exotic pets have become symbols of power for gangsters and businessmen alike. The other exposes illegal quail hunting in Bosnia-Herzegovina, with journalists conducting night-time fieldwork to uncover an illicit network involving Italian hunters.
This workshop offers a unique chance to learn how investigative journalism can expose complex international environmental crimes.
