As Greece has recovered from its devastating economic crisis, it has not been able to shed its over-reliance on tourism. The Cyclades, in particular, have been at the forefront of investor interest and at the top of global must-visit destinations. Especially in the last 2-3 years, post-covid, this has placed enormous strains on already teetering infrastructure, while building activity, legal and otherwise, threatens to irreversibly alter the landscape, and the onslaught of visitors is undermining a culture that has lasted for millennia. “Sustainable Cyclades” is a journalistic project covering aspects – big and small – of this crisis, as well as possible solutions.
