Linking the climate crisis to the responsibilities of oil companies - A case study based on the investigation: “Iraq without water”
Add to my calendar

While globally the impact and effects of the climate crisis are eventually receiving more coverage, there is still little attention on its root causes and too often the names of companies and corporations bearing consistent responsibilities in it are missing in the narrative - namely, international oil and gas companies.

Drawing from their first-hand experience working on the investigation “Iraq without water: the cost of oil to Italy”, winner of the European Press Prize 2024, Daniela Sala and Sara Manisera will explain step by step how they put together this story, how they used satellite images for fact-checking and mapping, and which documents, evidence, and tools they used to prove oil companies wrongdoings in Southern Iraq. They will also share the stories of the Iraqi citizens who are not only 'victims' but also, and above all, activists fighting for the right to water.
