Agenda
A workshop with Ron Haviv on photographing war and war crimes, their aftermath and their impact. Haviv is a co-founder of the VII Foundation, an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and award-winning photojournalist who has documented over 25 conflicts in the last 30 years. His work in the Balkans, which spanned over a decade of conflict, was used as evidence to indict and convict war criminals at the international tribunal in The Hague.
Haviv also contributed his photographs to GIJN’s Reporter’s Guide to Investigating War Crimes (now [by the time of Perugia Festival] available as an e-book) and a chapter on Documenting with Photo and Video. Haviv will speak about his success and failure as a war photographer, lessons learned, the responsibility and integrity needed, the importance of understanding context and backstory, and the necessity to document evidence around war crimes. He will share best practices and offer practical tips and tools.
*To attend this workshop participants are required to bring their own laptop.
